Only monsters whose faces are tied to non-Travelers' Hub NPC data carry over makeup for Journal viewing. This happens by design as a consequence of the Mii Cast system. However, all boss monsters that use the faces of either a Party Member or a Travelers' Hub guest (or his/her friend) modified using Makeup & Wigs will be displayed without said customization when viewed on the Journal. Note that fighting New Lumos bosses in their own Districts can only be done once a day.

In the Nintendo Switch version, with the addition of Makeup & Wigs, full face boss monsters can have makeup attached as well. Unlike quest bosses, these bosses can only be found in their own set location (s) instead of relying on quest randomness. Monsters are either shown in the monster journal, or in paths. Generally, stronger monsters possess more Mii face parts, with bosses being the only ones holding entire faces. However, a Mii's face parts can be liberated by slaying the monster they are stuck to, causing them to fly back to their owner. Occasionally, however, the boss is simply the tough/rare version of certain monster species. They usually steal the face of the guest Mii or their friend.

The bosses along with the quest are chosen at random. The Dark Lord uses the stolen Mii parts as a means of controlling the monsters. Quest bosses are monsters that can be assigned as the boss of Travelers' Hub quests. Monsters are the primary adversaries encountered in Miitopia.Ī monster is created when a Mii's stolen face parts are attached to a creature.
